About us
Who we are
Hi there!
We’re Against All Odds – a small indie studio currently working on our first self-published game to be released.
Each of us brings a unique background – from freelancing, programming, and other creative projects to developing small games and tinkering with tools and cool stuff just for the fun of it.
We spent a good part of our childhood in dark rooms, lit only by the buzzing static of cathode-ray tube screens. We played on home computers and consoles, broken up only by romps on the nearest playground and rambles through nature. Before long, we were hacking together code within the realms of the demoscene, instructing small speakers to buzz with our chiptunes, and creating graphics pixel by pixel on those 8-bit and later 16-bit machines – dreaming of making our own games one day.
Years later, all of us had long been working professionally in IT, doing much of what we had already done as teenagers and young adults. It felt like the right time to finally follow our shared dream: Crafting our own games from the ground up – coding, composing, designing, rendering, writing, and publishing everything ourselves.
While we were only on the players’ side of Steam up until last year, we now hop back and forth between both sides, living the indie spirit – sometimes against all odds. And so, our journey begins with SEEDS… the first of many games to come.
Also, we’re deeply passionate about the technology and tools we use. And often, when we create something useful, we love to give back – by open-sourcing it and sharing it as free software. For example, our entirely in-house game engine, PasVulkan which powers SEEDS, as well as our RISC-V emulator, PasRISCV, which powers the in-game computer, are both Free and Open Source Software (FOSS).
We also plan to release the full game soundtrack under a Creative Commons license.
